Toronto – Explanations of Psychotherapy and Couples Therapy ,our Counselling approach and insurance coverage for psychological services.
Why Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy can help you if you are feeling overwhelmed by problems and unable to cope. Psychotherapy can provide help with a range of problems, from depression and low self-esteem, to addictions and relationship conflicts.
Stress and trauma experiences impact our relationships and hinder our ability to function effectively. These problems can also decrease the engagement of our daily lives.
We can help reduce the level of distress in your life and improve the quality of your relationships.
Why Couples Therapy?
Healthy relationships are important to our health and quality of life. They protect against disease, illness, depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse and self-harm (The American Psychiatric Foundation: Partnership for Workplace Mental Health, 2008).
Our goal is to facilitate healthy relationships that include feelings of closeness and connectedness, encourage open communication and promote collaborative decision-making.
How Does Therapy Work?
Therapy is a confidential, co-operative process based upon the enhancement of clients’ strengths. At our first appointment we conduct a general assessment that takes 90 minutes. This assessment provides the background to develop a treatment plan to address issues, concerns and problems you are having as an individual or couple. Together we develop clear and well-defined goals. After this first meeting, we typically meet on a weekly basis for one hour sessions. Therapy can be brief or long term depending upon the situation. Once you have made significant improvements on your issues, we can meet on a check-in basis.
What is your Therapy approach?
We use an active, systems perspective approach to therapy. To develop a tailored treatment plan designed to fit your own specific circumstances, we draw upon different types of therapy models. Types of therapy include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), client-centred psychotherapy, Solution-focused counselling, Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT), motivational counselling and mindfulness meditation.
Are Psychological Services covered by insurance?
Yes, our services are usually covered under your workplace health and benefits plan. These services include: Psychological services, Registered Psychologists, Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Marriage and Family Therapy.
Do you Accept Credit Cards for Counselling?
Yes, we accept Visa and MasterCard for psychological services if you require a receipt by a Registered Psychologist for reimbursement from your workplace health and benefits plan.
When can I attend therapy?
We offer appointments Monday to Friday. Evening appointments are available for clients who work 9-5 and cannot attend during the day.
